Influencing factors for Sleep Disturbance in the Intensive Care Unit Patients: A Systematic Review

Purpose : Sleep disturbances in patients the intensive care unit (ICU) are related to health problems after discharge. Therefore, active prevention and management required. Hence, identification of factors that affect sleep who critically ill is necessary.Methods The PubMed, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, EMBASE, Web Science databases were searched. Selection criteria observational experimental studies assessed as an outcome, included adult admitted ICU, published between November 2015 April 2022.Results A total 21,136 articles identified through search engines manual searches, 42 selected. From these, 22 influencing 11 interventions identified. Individual disease severity, age, pain, delirium, comorbidities, alcohol consumption, sex, disturbance before hospitalization, chronic obstructive pulmonary (COPD), cardiovascular disease, high diastolic blood pressure (DBP), low hemoglobin (Hb), respiratory rate (RR). Environmental light level, noise temperature. Furthermore, treatment-related use sedatives, melatonin administration, guidelines, ventilator application, nursing treatment, length ICU stay. Regarding interventions, massage, eye mask earplugs, quiet time multicomponent protocols, aromatherapy, acupressure, sounds sea, adaptive intervention, circulation lighting, single occupation a room identified.Conclusion Based on these results, we propose development application various improve quality ill.
